Andrew Wright

Andrew is the coach of several emerging elite ITU athletes, as well as multiple AG Kona Qualifiers. His athletes consistently win Age Group races over all distances throughout Asia and Australia. A former professional athlete, he has trained with some of the world’s best athletes under the world’s best coaches. Andrew is based in Hong Kong, China.

I represented Hong Kong in triathlon for 8 years while competing on the ITU circuit. After retiring from racing I co-founded and became Head Coach of 26 Coaching. We now have hundreds of junior athletes training in several venues ranging from beginners all the way up to junior elite athletes, several of whom are on the Hong Kong National squad. I also coach a Masters swim programme and Age Group athletes. In 2016 I’m excited to be taking the opportunity to join as a full-time online coach so that I can develop my own skills and abilities to be the best coach I can be. My entire athletic career was influenced by the training approach, and I now look forward to learning and continuing to share this approach to produce great results for our athletes.

Coach Andrew Wright

I picked up triathlon at the age of 17 after leaving school, whilst on a gap year in Australia. After a few months training I returned to Hong Kong where I began training with the elite national squad. Luckily the assistant coach at the time, Ben Bright, who is now the High Performance manager of GB triathlon, noticed my potential and started training me. Using many of the same training principles and sessions passed on by his former coach, Brett Sutton, we had good success in Asia, notably winning the Elite U23 Asian Champs.

During my time training and racing I was able to obtain Undergraduate and Masters degrees in Sports Science as well as many coaching qualifications. Over the past few years I have worked hard building up a big youth coaching programme in HK with the aim of improving the standard of triathlon in Asia, creating an elite program, as well as helping age-group athletes achieve their goals. I look forward to working with you to achieve your triathlon goals.

I first met Andrew 4 years ago when looking for a masters swim group in Hong Kong, when my coach at the time decided to take a break from coaching two year later, I had the perfect excuse to ask Andrew to take me on as one of his athletes, his results had been outstanding and I was looking to take my racing to the next level. Andrew delivered on every count, he is a phenomenal coach that asks and gets the very best from his athletes. He relies on a deep understanding of the sport and his natural intuition to ensure that all his athletes get the results that they deserve. I cannot recommend highly enough as both a coach and a friend!

I recently competed at the Ironman World Championship in Kona and placed 2nd in my age group (35-39), 7th amateur and 43rd overall. Andrew’s plan was instrumental in this result, working over 60 hours a week with a young family, fitting enough time for training is always difficult, Andrew’s plan adapted perfectly to my needs and I couldn’t imagine having achieved this without his constant feedback and support.

Andrew and I worked together in preparation for my first ever Ironman.   It was a struggle to balance my work life  / family time and training and Andrew was excellent at managing our training sessions for maximum impact and keeping me 100% focused.  He was able to teach me endurance and cross over techniques from single discipline sports to a triathlon.  If you have signed up for a triathlon or just want to improve your fitness levels then Andrew is the man to see you through, I would highly recommend him. Andrew Wright has, and will continue to, play an essential role in my development as an athlete. His ability to motivate athletes and adapt to their needs has allowed myself and others to develop and achieve what was originally thought to be out of reach. Oscar Coggins

Hong Kong Junior National Champion

After a first career in finance and 3 years doing triathlon with one full Ironman where I finished 51st in my Age-Group in 10h13, I met Andrew in Hong Kong and in less than a year managed to finish Top 10 in Kona. The following year in 2013 I won 2 Ironman Age-Group Overall (Melbourne and Western Australia), finished 4th in Kona and had a PB in 8h48. I cannot thank Andrew enough. Great flexibility to take Into account work engagements, always boosting confidence when having doubts, little injuries and hard training, what else can you ask for? World Class and super efficient. Andrew Wright is an outstanding coach.  He has an innate understanding of his athletes and their abilities and capabilities. His programmes are individually tailored to each athlete depending on their commitments and he is able to flex programmes at short notice (work/family/injury) whilst still maintaining the focus and achieving results.  I was an average athlete before I met Andrew, and since then have never been out the top 5 in a race, he has turned me into one of the top athletes in my age group.

I have won my age group 3 x in Ironman 70.3 and had 2 top 3 finishes in Ironman both resulting in Kona qualifications. More recently, Andrew coached me to an Ironman 9 months after my second baby which was a tall order for anyone, where I finished 5th overall and 3rd age group, with a World Championship qualification.  What’s more impressive is that I got to the start line injury free whilst being in the best possible shape I could be in given the time we had, which is a huge credit to Andrew’s attention to detail and planning when designing the training programmes. I can’t thank Andrew enough for his hard work and dedication to help me achieve my goals.
