I’ve been coached and worked directly with Brett Sutton for a long period, first as part of the Swiss team and later as a TeamTBB athlete. My goal is to become Switzerland’s top high-performance coach. I’m proud to join use the principles of training that have been so successful with the sport’s best. Mathias Hecht

About Coach Mathias

I have been racing triathlons since I was 12 years-old and the sport has been an important part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up racing ITU Olympic distance races, joining the ITU circuit as a member of the Swiss National team for 16 years. During this time I proudly represented my country at Junior, U23 and Elite European and World Championship competitions. In 2005 I switched to Ironman distance racing with my first Ironman a 3rd place at Ironman Western Australia. Since then I have gathered another 11 full distance Ironman podiums all over the world, with highlights including my 8th place finish at the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii 2008 and winning Ironman St.George in 2011 with a new course record.

As an athlete who raced the Hawaii World Championships 6 times I know what it takes for my athletes to get there too. In addition to my own career, I have taken steps necessary to develop my business and coaching career. From my home base in Willisau I have been running my own swim coaching school with great success. Over the last couple years I have been working with age group athletes, with two of them already qualifying for Kona – and one of them making it into the Top 10 overall at Ironman Switzerland as an age group athlete! I enjoy helping age group athletes with their journey and to ensuring that they are at their best on race day. Being coached is an investment of their time and also mine, so I give it all the effort I have and expect the same in return.

Coaching has also given me the chance to give back from what I learned in the 23 years doing this sport. I have been known as a hard worker in the triathlon scene for some time and I will definitely be known as the guy who goes the extra mile as a coach as well. It drives me to get the best out of my athletes as much as I wanted to get the best out of myself in my career as an athlete.

I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals soon.

Mathias is a great coach! As a workaholic, time is always limited especially for training. With Mathias experience as a professional triathlete for over 10 years and being in the sport for over 20 years, he has huge knowledge and provided me with his personalized training plans which guided me to make the most of my limited time. He showed me how to be focused on the quality rather than the quantity. Thus I was able to improve my trainings significantly and to get to a higher level which ended in qualifying for Ironman Hawaii several times. Thanks Mathias for letting me know how to make the difference. Peter Müller

15x Ironman Finisher

After being away from the sport for more than 7 years, Mathias has helped me to become a sub-9 Ironman and the overall Age Group winner at Ironman Zürich in 2014. Mathias supported me in juggling my busy work schedule as a lawyer with triathlon training and introduced me to the benefits of focused key sessions and well-targeted rest days. His training philosophy has helped me tremendously and continues to bring me to new levels. Overall, I believe Mathias has a unique talent to push athletes to their best performance while guiding them through the difficult journey of balancing their training and life commitments. All characteristics that are highly valuable to age-group and professional athletes alike. Alain Friedrich
